[Workshop] Introduction to Mobile App Development with Android
Ever wanted to translate your idea into an app but don’t know where to start? In our recent workshop, our instructor Laura Brandon brought 10 ladies through their first steps in learning about Android App Development. Android is a Linux-based, open source mobile operating system developed by Google. Applications developed on Android are written in the Java programming language, and due to the open nature, anyone can develop Android apps! Our workshop was led by Laura Brandon. Laura is a software engineer from NEC and an avid innovator. Currently Singapore-based, she began her career in New Zealand and is pursuing her dream of working abroad. We began with a round of introductions, talking about the motivations behind learning about Android. Laura has created several Android applications including a human-to-dog matching app for Fox Network’s star dog trainer, Cesar Millan and also augmented reality ‘smart glasses’ conducting facial recognition! We cosied together at National Design Centre on Sunday, 14th June and were given a high level introduction to mobile app development.
